Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)
£170 with Bike Hire or £160 on your own bike

CBT's on Geared and Auto Machines
Before your CBT:
Advice for total Beginners and less confident Riders

Consider enrolling in a 1: 1 Taster session. This two-hour session, priced at £90, will provide you with basic but valuable skills and confidence to help you tackle the CBT.
​​

It's not compulsory but we recommend this for students who have never been on a bike or have never ridden a geared bike which is massively different from driving a car if you have tried this or already drive.
​

Come with a good understanding of the Highway Code & can identify UK road signs.
​

If this is your first CBT and only hold a provisional licence we will ask you to complete a ride safe course prior to coming. You will need to supply us with the results so we know you have an understanding of the highway code and road systems. We will send you a link to this on booking.

A valid UK licence with the correct entitlements.
​

Provide both the last eight digits of your Drivers Licence Number & verification code obtained via the Gov.UK website.

(RIDE Motorbike Training School will provide you with a link to this if needed)

To be able to read with or without glasses a number plate at a distance of 20 and 20.5 metres depending on the style of number plate. If you need glasses bring them as we will check your eyesight.
​​

Can understand and converse in basic English without an interpreter. You will need to be able to understand all instructions both on and off road throughout for your and others safety.
​

Be able to competently ride a bicycle without stabilisers. You definately will need to be able to have balance and co-ordination to be able to ride any bike

You'll need to attend with all the essential riding gear for the course and for riding out on the road after passing your CBT.

There are 5 elements to complete.
Element A.

Introduction ​& Meet your instructor

Checking your Licence

Eyesight Check

Discuss the Aims of the CBT

Understanding the importance of equipment & clothing
Element B. On site Training

Discuss:

All of the controls on your bike and how to use them
-
How to carry out BASIC Maintenance checks of the vehicle

Practice Starting & stopping the engine safely
Element C. Onsite Riding

Taught how to control your machine through a series of low speed manoeuvres and exercises.
​​

All carried out in an off road environment
Element D. On road Training

A further talk relating to:

Vulnerability of us as riders

Legalities of riding

Road & weather conditions
-
Highway code
-
Attitude
-
Hazards
Element E. Road Riding

Once you've completed all the previous elements safely, you'll move on to the final part of the course.
​

If you don't quite meet the safety standards, no worries you'll just need a bit more training to finish up. This will be arranged for a later date.

You'll get at least 2 hours of on-road riding, putting everything you've learned into action. Get ready to tackle different road systems and real-life riding situations!
“You must pass each element of the CBT course in order before you move on to the next. You cannot continue to any later element unless the instructor is satisfied you have met the required skills and safety standard for each stage. If you do not meet the necessary standard in any element, your CBT will be stopped at that point and you will not be allowed to continue with further elements on the same day.

What comes after passing?

If you're 16, you can ride a moped up to 50cc, whether it's geared or automatic.
​

From the age of 17+, you can ride a bike with a maximum engine size of 125cc, either automatic or geared.
​

Remember you must display L-plates on both front and back
​

Riding motorways or carrying passengers is not allowed until you have your full motorcycle license.
​
-
The CBT certificate is valid for two years, and you can choose to renew it as needed or until you're ready to obtain your full license.

What you'll Need:
Expectations

During your CBT course with RIDE Motorbike Training School. You will need to complete all elements of the course to a safe standard to achieve the CBT certificate.​
​

If a learner is deemed to be a danger to themselves or others. RIDE Motorbike Training School and it's Instructors have the right to terminate the course at any stage.​
​
-
All learners are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner throughout the duration of the course
​
And to not:​
​

Cause distress either verbally or physically to another learner or instructor of RIDE Motorbike Training School. This may lead to their course being terminated and the loss of their course fee.​
​

Intentionally damage any equipment loaned to them by RIDE Motorbike Training School.​
​

Intentionally cause damage to any facility or training area being used to carry out their course.​
​
-
Any intentional damage as mentioned above will incur a cost to replace or make good.
